Is there an older person you especially look up to, perhaps a mentor or someone you know only from a distance? Eleanor Doran is a charming octogenarian in my novel, Morning Glory, the kind of older saint younger people rise up and call “blessed.” In an early scene, she tells the pastor’s daughter, Catherine Harrison, and temporary minister Henry Sharp, “I used to be an active woman in my younger years. Since I’ve grown old, God has given me a smaller sphere, and I spend most of my time praying for the needs of his people and our city. . . I believe he is about to answer many of them.” (P.S. This is a photo of my great-grandfather, John S. Price. I never knew him, but I love his contented, welcoming expression.)
