Studying history is often dismissed as nothing more than memorizing dates. My college students in required introductory courses often had this attitude. Yet I assured them that history truly comes alive when we focus on the fascinating people who lived through those times, shaped great events, and left us rich stories about them.
As America approaches its 250th year, you are invited to meet some of those people and experience those events in a more personal way, entering into the true “spirit of ’76.”
Over the years, I’ve written seven historical novels about this formative period in American history, and I’ll feature one for each month leading up to July 4th, in chronological order. In January, the spotlight is on Morning Glory, a novel about the First Great Awakening, a spiritual movement that played a pivotal role in the years before the Revolution. In the months that follow, attention will turn to each of the Easton Series novels. Whether you are discovering these books for the first time or rereading them, you are encouraged to see the history they portray through the eyes of those who lived it. By the time July 4th arrives, you will be ready to celebrate as an informed insider.
I’ll be posting contests and having online discussions about each book, starting next week.
